What You Get

Self-custody is the right answer for sovereignty. It is the wrong answer for inheritance unless you plan for it. Every cycle, families lose six- and seven-figure crypto positions because the holder died with the keys in their head, in a wallet only they could access, or with a seed phrase no one in the family understood. The chain does not care that you intended your kids to have it.

Our flat-fee Crypto Estate Plan is built by an attorney who runs hardware wallets, multisig, and DeFi positions personally. We design a plan that preserves your opsec while alive and ensures your beneficiaries can actually recover the assets when the time comes — without exposing your seed phrase to probate, your CPA's email, or your nephew's curiosity.

  • Self-custody inheritance protocol that survives your death without compromising opsec
  • Multi-signature wallet succession with role-based key holders
  • Hardware wallet key transfer plan (Ledger, Trezor, Coldcard)
  • Shamir Secret Sharing backup integration with executor and beneficiary roles
  • Exchange beneficiary designation and account succession
  • NFT and DAO governance token transfer mechanics under RUFADAA (F.S. Ch. 740)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I just put my seed phrase in my will?

Three reasons. First, wills become public during probate — your seed phrase would be in a court file. Second, your executor probably is not crypto-literate enough to safely retrieve, secure, and transfer assets that move on-chain instantly. Third, if you have multisig wallets, hardware wallets, or DeFi positions, a seed phrase alone does not transfer those assets correctly. We design a custody-aware plan that separates the legal authority (in your will or trust) from the technical access (in a separately stored, executor-accessible protocol).

How does this work with my existing will or trust?

We integrate with what you already have. If you have a will but no trust, we usually recommend a pour-over structure or a digital-asset-focused trust amendment. If you have a trust, we draft a digital asset schedule and amend the trust if needed. If you have no estate plan, we recommend bundling with our VirtualHeirloom complete estate plan or starting with a SnapTestament will. See /services/estate-planning.

What about multisig?

Multisig is one of the strongest opsec setups for living, and one of the worst for inheritance if not planned. We work with your specific multisig structure (Gnosis Safe, Casa, Unchained, Liana, BitGo, custom) and design a role-based succession: who replaces a deceased signer, on what timeline, with what verification, and how the replacement is approved by the remaining signers. The plan is designed to survive even partial loss of signers.

Do you handle Shamir Secret Sharing?

Yes. SLIP-39 Shamir backups, distributed across executor, family members, attorney safe deposit, and other roles, are one of the cleanest approaches for high-value self-custody estates. We design the share distribution and document the recovery protocol. We do not generate or hold your shares — that is yours alone.

What about NFT and DAO governance tokens?

NFTs are personal property under most state law, transferable by will or trust like any other digital asset under RUFADAA. DAO governance tokens are more complex — many DAOs have on-chain procedures for member dissociation that the operating agreement (or smart contract) controls. We review your DAO documentation and draft the appropriate transfer mechanics into your estate plan.

How does this differ from VirtualHeirloom or SnapHeirs?

VirtualHeirloom is our complete estate plan (trust + will + POA + healthcare + digital). SnapHeirs is a focused digital estate organizer for inventory and access. Crypto Estate Planning is the deep specialist add-on: it goes further than either on the technical side of self-custody, multisig, hardware wallets, and DeFi positions. Most large crypto holders use VirtualHeirloom and add this specialist plan on top.
